I thought I would defeat Pain, stop the Akatsuki and save the world from destruction. A person who would make a great choice that will bring either peace or destruction to the world of the shinobi. The Great Lord Elder prophesied that I would be the one to guide the revolution. I'd die as a splendid shinobi, at least that's least that's how it's supposed to go. I swore I'd accomplish a deed so great that it would obliterate all my failures. I lived my life always believing that the lessons I learned are what hound me. And mistakes are important part of a plot, too. A tale is only good as its final turn of events. I wish I could have died like each of the Hokage. Compared to the great deeds of the hokage my actions are all insignificant things and deed. Continually rejected by Tsunade, not being able to stop my friend and unable to protect either my student or my mentor.

And looking back, my life has really been full of nothing but failure. A shinobi's life is not measured by how they live but rather it's measured by what they accomplish before their death. " In the shinobi world it's not how you live, it's how you die. there was a lot of himself to blame, and he certainly blamed himself. again, imagine your best friend turning away from you, and believing it was entirely your fault. even worse, the one who killed the third hokage, his master, was the one who had turned thanks to (as he believed it) none other than jiraiya himself. orochimaru struck the village with the hidden sand, and killed the third hokage while jiraiya, was once again, just outside of the village, and could only make it in time to clear out the summons. shortly after, the second disaster struck jiraiya. either way, he took him in, in order to make him strong, and make sure his ideals stood firm. after many, many years, jiraiya took in naruto, maybe because he had a duty as he who gave him a name, or maybe out of guilt for the death of minato.

he'd worked so hard to be able to protect all that was precious and it had dissappeared when he wasn't there to protect it. jiraiya was away from the village, and blamed himself entirely for the death of those who he loved. naruto was born, and with it came the death of minato and kushina.

After this, things started going downhill again for jiraiya.
